Russian Program at the Konzerthaus

This promises to be an exciting evening at the Konzerthaus in Berlin:

Alexei Lubimov, piano

Galina Ustvolskaya Sonata No. 5
Dmitri Shostakovich Five Preludes for Piano (1919-20)
Sergey Prokofjew Sonata No. 7 op. 83
Alexander Skryabin Five Preludes op. 74
Andrej Volkonsky “Musica stricta”
Dmitri Shostakovich Sonata No. 2 op. 64

November 16, 2006. Konzerthaus

Ustvolskaya and Shostakovich: there should be many more concerts with their music side by side. Who influenced whom? Their music so different and yet there is something similar. Volkonsky is a friend of Lubimov. He’s some sort of secret tip for those of us who do not study Russian music. In the center of the concert: Scryabin’s wonderfully sparse late miniatures.

A review of the concert will follow.
